HACC aerial view
When it comes to air cargo, Hamburg is way ahead in northern Germany. Here are a few facts:
- More than 150 airfreight companies with a combined workforce of more than 1,500 personnel are based in the metropolitan region, including numerous foreign companies.
- The Hamburg Airport Cargo Center (HACC) opened in 2016, with its own customs checkpoint connected directly with the apron.
- The goal of HACC: Together with resident air cargo handlers, airlines and freight forwarding companies, align logistic service offerings more closely with user needs and make operational processes as efficient as possible.
- HACC can process around 150,000 tonnes of air freight per year.
- In 2023, 47,187 tonnes of freight were handled at HACC, around 32.6 percent less than before the coronavirus pandemic (2019: 70,025 tonnes).
- During the coronavirus pandemic in particular, the performance potential of HACC was clearly demonstrated, with up to 3 daily charter cargo flights.
Hamburg Airport Cargo Center (HACC)
- 20,000 square (meters) of logistics space for handling companies and forwarding agents.
- 44 loading ramp positions for trucks & 36 for articulated truck-trailer combinations
- Direct connection to airport apron
- Own customs area and veterinary/import border station
- Multi-user concept: Forwarding agents in the centre of the hangar, integration of handling agents via apron
- Latest technology (e.g. HGV docks, palletising station, refrigerated and frozen goods storage, hazardous goods storage)
